Workouts for your best 5k

Here are a list of workouts you can do to run your best 5k, make sure you are starting with shorter intervals and progressing to more race specific workouts as the weeks progress -

 

16 x 200m at goal 5k pace with 1min jog after each

12 x 400m at goal 5k pace with 90sec  jog after each

10 x 500m at goal 5k pace with 90sec jog after each

6 x 800m at goal 5k pace with 2mins jog after each

5 x 1k at goal 5k pace with 3mins jog after 

2 x 2k + 1 x 1k at goal 5k pace with 3mins jog after each

3 x 1 mile at goal 5k pace with 4 mins jog after each

 

Remember.. these workouts are only beneficial if you have built a sufficient base of endurance. I call these the 'icing on the cake' workouts.
