Font Romeu Training Camp 2022

Font Romeu Training Camp

We arrived in Font Romeu on Tuesday 30th August and checked into our airbnb in the town centre which we had booked up until the Saturday.

The great thing about the town is that everything is on your doorstep, sport shops, restaurants, cafe’s supermarkets and even a sports massage place!

During the week myself and Lucy drove our hire car to lake matemale which is a 20 min drive from the town. The lake is a 5 mile loop and all of which is on gravel paths. The views are amazing!

After dealing with all my runs during the week being on hilly courses (apart from the lake) we decide to sign up to the local gym which was a 5 minute walk from the airbnb. At last! I could run on something flat.. a treadmill! Haha

By the time Saturday came around Lucy travelled home and dropped the hire car off at the airport and I checked in to the Olympic training centre called CNEA. Here you have 3 meals per day included, access to all the gyms facilities, ice baths, sauna, athletics track etc.

On Saturday I unfortunately came down with a cold which lasted 2-3 days which was frustrating, I slept loads and by Monday I started to feel okay.

This week I have ran good mileage so far, a missed Monday run but Tuesday I contacted Phil Sesemann a 2:12 marathon runner who was in Font Romeu and was training with a group. He kindly offered to pick me up and take me to the lake for a run! We also ran easy on the track for one of our PM afternoon runs.

From left to right marathon PB's

2:24, 2:16, 2:27, 2:12

I’m planning to do one of my first workouts here on the treadmill on Saturday. 10 days or so of easy running should of by now made me acclimatise to 6000ft of altitude!

Thanks

Paul
